Caitlyn & Edward | engaged | Halifax Wedding Photographer

When I met up with Caitlyn and Edward for their engagement session last summer, I remember what a beautiful day it was. Like, one of those summer days that make you want to get a scoop of ice cream, and stroll slowly along the waterfront, savoring a slow pace with no where to go.

I was pretty excited about this engagement session, because it was my first time photographing an engaged couple. I think it’s so amazing that I get to be part of their journey into marriage, first doing their engagement session, and then their wedding. What an honour to witness that transformation! Natalie, Ken & Henry | newborn | Halifax Newborn Photographer

I loved the drive to their beautiful home in Bedford. It was a grey and chilly day in December, the kind of wet cold I’ve come to know from Halifax. The clouds seemed low, and with it being the beginning of December, seemed like they might be ready to give us some snow.

I love the light from those cold, grey days in winter. Its the kind of quiet light that makes me want to snuggle with a blanket, tea, and a good book. But after meeting Ken, Natalie, and baby Henry, I also realized its also perfect for snuggling new little babies.  Continue reading

Erika & Brian | maternity | Halifax Maternity Photography

There is a lot about being pregnant that isn’t pretty or glamorous. I know this having gone through two myself. But there is something so beautiful about being pregnant that I just can’t put my finger on. The anticipation. The excitement. The new beginnings. Especially when it is the couple’s first baby, those last few weeks of pregnancy almost seem like they cast a spell, and everyone is holding their breath, just waiting for the baby to arrive.

Not to mention that baby bump is the perfect accessory and seems to look cute no matter what.  Continue reading

Rosanna | professional headshots | Halifax Headshot Photography

It’s always fun to try new things in photography, so when I was asked to do some professional headshots for a new business owner, I was pretty excited!

Rosanna Pelton is a budding entrepreneur, who has recently launched her very own administrative and concierge services business, Rosapel. Naturally, she needed a professional image to use for her business! Rosanna also happens to be my Aunt,  so I was happy to help her out, but also catch up at the same time and hear all about her new business.

I really love the way these turned out, and I hope to do more headshots in the future! Continue reading

Alex, Allison & Theo | newborn | Halifax Newborn Photographer

Halifax Newborn photographer

As I walked into Alex, Allison, and Theo’s beautiful home on a Sunday afternoon, I was happy to see a family gathering taking place. Apparently getting together on Sundays is a tradition this family loves to share. To me, sharing time and a meal with people I love is something I value so much. When I meet other people with those same values, it is so easy to make a connection! Continue reading

A Year In Review | 2016 | Halifax Family Photographer

What an absolutely amazing year. I had the honor of photographing 31 families, couples, babies and weddings. This was my first year as a professional photographer, and it has solidified my love for this craft. After each session, and spending hours editing their photos, I felt as though I had come to know these people so personally. As if I could call each a friend. Whether or not I see them again (I really hope I do!), each of them has found a way into my heart. Meeting these people and their families has been one of the highlights of my year.  Here are a couple of my absolute favorites from our time together.ali

Leah & Martin | family | Halifax Family Photographer

Halifax Family Photography

On a hunch, I brought along some shelled peanuts for Isla, Leah and Martin’s 3-year-old. I wasn’t worried about John warming up to me; babies his age tend to smile easily. But having a 2-year-old myself, I know that learning to trust a stranger enough to smile isn’t easy for a toddler. About halfway through our time together, I showed her how to leave the peanuts out for the chipmunks and squirrels. Thankfully, our furry friends at the park were quick to respond, and it was so amazing to see Isla light up as they came right up to her!

When Leah contacted me to photograph her family, she told that her greatest hope was to capture the four of them doing something they love. She hoped that I might tag along like another family member, snapping away as they enjoy time together as a family. As the sun set low in the horizon, we enjoyed a beautiful summer’s evening, walking together in the park.
