Amber & Malcolm | maternity | Halifax Maternity Photographer

One of my favorite families! Amber, Malcolm, and Kendan needed some updated family pictures done because…there was another baby on the way! And what could have been more perfect than heading back to the same spot I met them the first time: Shubie Park. This time, it was a beautiful summer day, absolutely perfect for walking around with an energetic 2-year-old.

One of the best parts of being a family photographer is meeting other families. Often, we can relate on some level because of our kids. It’s so fun telling stories and laughing about this crazy life. Amber’s kids are roughly the same age as my kids (spoiler alert: she had a little girl. So a boy and a girl…just like me!). I remember thinking that it would be pretty cool to hang out with them. Thankfully, Amber was thinking along the same lines, and we’ve actually been able to meet up a couple of times!

I’m so honored to have been part of seeing this family grow over the last two years! Until next time ūüôā Continue reading

Caileigh | professional headshots | Halifax Headshot Photographer

My dear friend Caileigh. One of the most thoughtful people I know. She remembers the most amazing little details! Like the fact that we are a family constantly on the move, so for Christmas she bought us some locally made changing pads, for us to stuff in our bags to go! She has a beautiful way about her, and her smile can really light up a room. I’ve known Caileigh for about five years now, but I truly began to appreciate her once I had my son Joseph. See, Caileigh is a developmental interventionist and play practitioner who specializes in the use of play therapy for children. In other words, Caileigh is amazing with kids. My son loves her, and she has an incredible ability to relate to him. She was one of the first people he could identify in a photo album! Continue reading

Caitlyn & Edward | engaged | Halifax Wedding Photographer

When I met up with Caitlyn and Edward for their engagement session last summer, I remember what a beautiful day it was. Like, one of those summer days that make you want to get a scoop of ice cream, and stroll slowly along the waterfront, savoring a slow pace with no where to go.

I was pretty excited about this engagement session, because it was my first time photographing an engaged couple. I think it’s so amazing that I get to be part of their journey into marriage, first doing their engagement session, and then their wedding. What an honour to witness that transformation! Natalie, Ken & Henry | newborn | Halifax Newborn Photographer

I loved the drive to their beautiful home in Bedford. It was a grey and chilly day in December, the kind of wet cold I’ve come to know from Halifax. The clouds seemed low, and with it being the beginning of December, seemed like they might be ready to give us some snow.

I love the light from those cold, grey days in winter. Its the kind of quiet light that makes me want to snuggle with a blanket, tea, and a good book. But after meeting Ken, Natalie, and baby Henry, I also realized its also perfect for snuggling new little babies.  Continue reading

Erika & Brian | maternity | Halifax Maternity Photography

There is a lot about being pregnant that isn’t pretty or glamorous. I know this having gone through two myself. But there is something so¬†beautiful about being pregnant that I just can’t put my finger on. The anticipation. The excitement. The new beginnings.¬†Especially when it is the couple’s first baby, those last few weeks of pregnancy almost seem like they cast a spell, and everyone is holding their breath, just waiting for the baby to arrive.

Not to mention that baby bump is the perfect accessory and seems to look cute no matter what.  Continue reading

A Year In Review | 2016 | Halifax Family Photographer

What an absolutely amazing year. I had the honor of photographing 31 families, couples, babies and weddings. This was my first year as a professional photographer, and it has solidified my love for this craft. After each session, and spending hours editing their photos, I felt as though I had come to know these people so personally. As if I could call each a friend. Whether or not I see them again (I really hope I do!), each of them has found a way into my heart. Meeting these people and their families has been one of the highlights of my year.  Here are a couple of my absolute favorites from our time together.ali

Leah & Martin | family | Halifax Family Photographer

Halifax Family Photography

On a hunch, I brought along some shelled peanuts for Isla, Leah and Martin’s¬†3-year-old. I wasn’t worried about John warming up to me; babies his age tend to smile easily. But having a 2-year-old myself, I know that learning to trust a stranger enough to smile isn’t easy for a toddler.¬†About halfway through our time together, I showed her how to leave the peanuts out for the chipmunks and squirrels. Thankfully, our furry friends at the park were quick to respond, and it was so amazing to see Isla light up as they came right up to her!

When Leah contacted me to photograph her family, she told¬†that her greatest hope was to capture the four of them doing something they love. She hoped that I might tag along like another family member, snapping away as they enjoy time together as a family. As the sun set low in the horizon, we enjoyed a beautiful summer’s evening, walking together in the park.

Reyann’s Cake Smash | Halifax Family Photographer

untitled-13

I had the pleasure of meeting little Reyann and his wonderful parents on his 1st birthday. They were busy preparing for their guests, and wanted to capture their little boy digging into his Micky Mouse cake. I was immediately taken with Reyann. He has the most beautiful brown eyes and gentle demeanour. A lot of one year olds might be scared of a strange lady with a big camera in their face, but he just patiently stared at me! He even gave me some adorable smiles. He was also SO gentle in his cake smash! He slowly picked at his cake (as opposed to my son, who literally smashed his cake into his whole face!). The Horne Family | Halifax Family Photographer

Blog Collage-15

Pamela, Nick, Clara, and little Eloise May. This is who I had the privilege of spending a couple of hours with on a weekend in July! I visited their home for a casual lifestyle family session, just five days after Eloise was born. Both Pam and Nick were laid back, fun, and so proud of their little family. They had a beautiful property, and we had fun picking different spots for the ¬†family-photo-to-hang-on-the-wall (which of course…they nailed!).¬† Continue reading

Nightingale Family | Halifax Family Photography

My friend¬†Laura is an extremely talented artisan. She is the owner of The Yellow Birdhouse¬†¬†where she makes¬†the most beautiful felt pieces. Wreaths, hair clips, hoop art, headbands, and now more recently, bowties and boutonnieres!¬†She¬†asked if I would take a few pictures of her incredibly handsome sons modelling her newest creations. We also managed to get a family portrait done, as well as a few head shots of her. Thankfully, it was a gorgeous evening at Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage. I just love those cute painted little huts! Continue reading
